Sheet Music is a standard form of written music that can (generally) be applied to any instrument. This is true for the guitar as well.
First Sheet Music Lesson
Here we have the first 4 notes in the C scale on the guitar. They are (from left to right): C, D, E, F (and then, descending in the second measure): F, E, D, C. On the top is the same in tablature notation (which you're probably used to). However, tabs do not show timing (usually). In the sheet music score, each note is signified by a colored oval with a tail. This means it is a quarter note, and takes up one beat in a four beat measure. Practice recognizing the notes without having to look at the accompanying tabs.
Secondly we now have the upper half of the C scale: the notes G, A, B, and C. Once again try to recognize the notes without having to refer to the tabs.
First Song
Here is your first practice in playing a song by sheet music alone. The uncolored ovals with tails represent half notes, which get two beats, and the uncolored oval without a tail is a whole note (all four beats). Remember to pace yourself. Consistency is more important than speed. Remember to always use correct fingering! (Index finger for playing the first fret, middle finger for playing the second fret, ringer finger for the third, and pinky for the fourth).
More Advanced
This is a more advanced piece that required that you fully recognize the notes fast enough to play. Remember your fingerings keep a steady rhythm.
