the following fret patterns are what by many called practice patterns, they can be used to improve your fretting quality and as warm-ups before playing. they are very simple and guitarists from all levels use and practice these patterns all the time, but mostly should be used extensivley by new players.

ex:1

e|1-2-3-4-------------------------------------------------------------------------1-2-3-4-|
G|--------1-2-3-4---------------------------------------------------------1-2-3-4---------|
B|----------------1-2-3-4-----------------------------------------1-2-3-4-----------------|
D|------------------------1-2-3-4-------------------------1-2-3-4-------------------------|
A|--------------------------------1-2-3-4---------1-2-3-4---------------------------------|
E|----------------------------------------1-2-3-4-----------------------------------------|

This is a basic consept of a training pattern, in which you use all you fretting fingures and go up and down the width of the neck, these exercises' speed should increase over time only if every note is fretted clearty without jitter. This consept of "up and down" can also be alterated to use certain fingures to improve "fingure-Independability" (fingure dexterity), controll of your fingures, agility (by increasing fret spaces) and the strangth of your fretting hand.

also a good idea when practicing, to use the same fingure that coresponds the fret (pinky = 4frt, ringfingur =2nd), so you won't forget the last two (and mostly the weaker) fingurs.

The best thing about this type of training is that you can simply invent any pattern or put in one any alteration (or twist) you like, just like I have written, and you will begin seeing improvment in weeks and will also improve getting up and down the neck while playing scales, just don't give up when it will start getting boring (and it will very soon).
