This Sites An Awsome Idea! I support the idea of a Tab Wiki (i've always hated how theres so many copies of tabs on some sites and all are wrong.). I've always wanted the ability to instantly correct a tab and its finnaly here awsome work!.
Hey man. Nothing wrong with editing! I've edited many more than 5 times in a row. ;) --JohnM 14:09, 9 Jul 2005 (EDT)

Song template
Hey... what was the point of category thing you added to the song template? I'm kind of confused. heh.
-- John (talk) 19:59, 24 Aug 2005 (EDT)
The category was so that we could have alphabetical listings of songs by each artist as well as the normal listings. I thought it would help people who are less familiar with a band to have a option of alphabetical listings since they wouldn't know which cd the song came from. Since some pages like The Beatles and Led Zeppelin have alot of songs this could save them alot of time and frustration. You can see what it looks like on the Billy Talent page.

Solo Artists: "Last, First" or "First Last"?
Diploid, thanks for the information regarding "Artist, The". Sorry about creating extra work for you! The site is awesome and I hope to continue adding to it! After seeing Wikipedia.org, it didn't take long until I realized that a site like this for tab would be awesome. (Has anybody seen http://www.emilstabs.org yet?) Anyway, quick question -- for solo artists, I have been adding them as "Last Name, First Name" mostly. But I noticed that many artists are not listed that way. (e.g. Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, Jimi Hendrix, etc.)) I think I prefer the "Last, First" format better. Indeed, with some artists, it is only their last name that we identify them with. (e.g. Beethoven, Mozart, Pachelbel, Johann -- even "Dylan", "Hendrix", etc.) What do you advise here? --RockyRaccoon 3 Sep 2005.
Our concensus on the forums was that we use "The Artist" instead of "Artist, The", so it naturally follows to use "First Last" since "Last, First" looks much worse, and we can easily sort by last name anyway. -- John (talk) 16:27, 3 Sep 2005 (EDT)
Thanks JohnM. It sounds like you're suggesting to write it as "First Last", but sort it by the last name, as we do with "The Artist". However, you'll notice that in just about every case (that I've seen anyway), it's listed by "First Last" and its sorted by "First". (e.g. Bob Dylan is under "B", etc.) I'll change my entries to the "First Last" format, but should I alphabetize by "First" (as seems to be done so far) or "Last" (as you imply). Thanks again! --RockyRaccoon 3 Sep 2005.
I don't think this problem of "Last, First" has come up before however I'd be in support of using Last, First in the listings. I agree that no ones going to look up Ludwig when they really mean Beethoven. However this is not universal in that other artists such as cher are only known by all but their die hard fans by their first names. Maybe further discusion on this matter in the forums would be usefull.
Also, before I forget, your artist pages and tabs look great Rocky, but you should be adding them to the category:artists as well. I know its a pain but were in transition from the manual list of artists to automatic categories which are easier maintained and can be used in SQL queries. I've changed all the artists so far but for future artist pages please add the following to the bottum of the page.
[[Category:Artists:First Initial Goes Here]]
Cheers, Diploid 15:43, 4 Sep 2005 (EDT)
Diploid, thanks again for the advice. I'll try to remember to add the additional artists:letter categories from now on. Sorry, again, to generate extra work for you. I think this website has great potential! I'm trying my best to add as many of the popular tabs as possible to make it more useful to the guitar community as a whole. How many people do you think are aware of this site?
As for the "Last, First" vs. "First Last" thing, I'll be moving some artists, like Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, etc. into the letters which their last names start with (e.g. moving Bob Dylan from "B" to "D"), while maintaining the format of "First Last" in their own pages. In other words, I'll keep everything the same, but move the location of the artists names in the alphabetical lists. For names that are questionable (like Cher), I won't touch them yet. --RockyRaccoon 4 Sep, 2005.
Sounds good :) --Diploid 15:10, 5 Sep 2005 (EDT)
Hello, I just want to say that I think people should have the option of finding their artists by either letter, ie. someone looking for bob dylan could find him on B. Or, if you really feel strongly about keeping only the last letter, there should be directions on the main page and/or in each of the letter pages. VdSV9 16:35, 2 Apr 2006 (EDT)
Rock vs. Rock'n'roll?? And what about Classic Rock?
What do you think about adding a "Classic Rock" category, as a subcategory of "Rock"? Also, whats the difference between "Rock" and "Rock'n'Roll"? --RockyRaccoon 5 Sep 2005
From what I understand Classic Rock and Rock 'n' Roll are basically the same things. Rock on the other hand is a more general term encompasing all the various things that evolved out of the origonal Rock 'n' Roll bands (such as Punk Rock, Hard Rock, and even Grunge). So I don't think we need a classic rock category cause it would just prove too confusing to have both Rock 'n' Roll and Classic Rock. --Diploid 22:15, 5 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Hey, Diploid! Now that you have sysop status, when you get a chance feel free to delete this page. I accidentally spelled the album wrong, and it won't let me delete it. Sorry! :) --RockyRaccoon

Uploading PowerTab Files?
According to the "Help:PowerTab" page, these files can be uploaded and then included in the song page using the particular tag indicated on that page. However, when I try to upload a file it says "Upload Warning: *.ptb extension not a recommended image file type." or something like that -- it doesn't allow me to do it! Is there a way to allow PTB file extensions for upload, so that I can upload a few of these? --RockyRaccoon 24 Sep 2005.
I dono, I've never worked in Power Tab, Is there any other format it can export to? I would ask mickey but he's not around. I'll download the program and mess around abit later.
--Diploid 17:41, 25 Sep 2005 (EDT)
Hmm... well, it worked before. Maybe Mickey upgraded the software and overwrote it or something. -- John (talk) 19:03, 25 Sep 2005 (EDT)
Uploading Video Files?
I was thinking of uploading some videos of how to play certain pieces of music. Unfortunately, tabwiki doesn't seem to accept them. (I only tried uploading an AVI so far.) Do you think this is a good idea? Can the rules be changed to allow for AVI and other file types to be uploaded? By the way, has there been any progress on allowing for the upload of PowerTabs?? --RockyRaccoon 01 Oct 2005.
Yes Yes and none so far.
I've just emailed mickey about allowing the powertab, AVI and mpeg file formats and hopefully he'll enable them when he gets back (i think he's on vacation or something). I think video lessons would be great and would certainly be easier to make then written lessons. However if we add video lessons to the site I think we should include in the deletion help page a statement to the effect that lessons which are either inacurate or just of very low quality (ie the guitarist is just flat out bad) should have a vote for deletion since videos use up some much more bandwidth and space then normal pages. Basicly I would like to see tutorials which are done by people who really know the song well. For example a tutorial on stairway to heaven should not be done by an intermediate guitarist who just learned the song 2 days ago but rather someone who really enjoys playing it and has been playing it for long enough to work out all the kinks. --Diploid 12:30, 2 Oct 2005 (EDT)
I would agree with that. So do you recommend that videos be used only for tutorials and lessons? What about for certain tabs (not officially a lesson)? --RockyRaccoon 2 Oct 2005.
The Showdown
Thanks for deleting the duplicate pages for "Showdown, The". But I think you accidentally deleted the correct one too -- "The Showdown". Maybe I'm missing something or maybe the correct one is listen somewhere else, but I couldn't find it. Is it possible to undelete it? :o --RockyRaccoon 2 Oct 2005.
ya, my bad. I somehow ended up deleting the wrong page. It's all fixed now though.

Wikipedia Entry
Thought you might like to know that I created a TabWiki entry in Wikipedia. Feel free to edit it as you see fit! I just copied (and edited a bit) the About section from this page and wrote a sentence or two description on its purpose. I also posted a short note in the Talk section of the "tablature" article because somebody mentioned that somebody should create a wiki site for tab. --RockyRaccoon 21 Oct 2005.
nicely done, I've posted info about TabWiki on Wikibooks because they were starting to develope their own, somewhat redundant, tableture wiki. But I never thought to post a wikipedia article. Excellent work!
Cheers,

Songtext
What about adding songtexts to the tab. So we don't only have the three: guitar tab, bass tab, drums tab, but as a fourth: songtext. Or are there any copyright-problems as we have in Germany? (In Germany there is no single songtext-homepage because of some copyright-problems...) --Metaltron 10:15, 5 Jan 2006 (EST)
I wouldn't recommend adding songtext to the song template at this time. I've already talked to Josheph about the music industry's new anti-tab site campaign and I think putting songtexts up, which is always legally more sketchy then tableture would just make us take more heat from this campaign. --Diploid 11:44, 5 Jan 2006 (EST)
Okay, got no problems with that. --Metaltron 13:34, 5 Jan 2006 (EST)
Mainpage
Who would I talk to about the Main Page? It is protected, which is fine, but so is its talk page, so there's nowhere to even discuss the main page. Hyacinth 07:51, 19 Feb 2006 (EST)
- K, the main page's talk page was spammed once, but that was long enough ago that I think its safe to unprotect now. You can talk there, sorry bout that --Diploid 15:23, 19 Feb 2006 (EST)

Sure, it couldn't hurt. I'm really not much more than a spam-checker (although I have contributed a few tabs), but it would be nice to be able to protect a page if the need arises.

template wikipedia
- moved from User talk:VdSV9 hey thanks for fixing template:Wikipedia, I can't belive I didn't notice that when i made it, or when i added it to all the pages (you'd think i would have caught on :P ) --Diploid 17:41, 1 Apr 2006 (EST)
Hello, you were quick for someone on a ceista (ciesta?)... anyways, there's still a problem with that template, for instance, one who clicks on the link that shows on the muse page will be redirected to the muse articleon greek mythology, not to the Muse (band) article. Of course that will happen with many other bands and songs. Also, of course, there will be most likely a disambiguation link in that page, but in some cases it might happen that there might be a wikiarticle on a word that is a band name and not an article on the band proper. So, IMHO, the band template shouldn't have the wikipedia template, and the latter should be used with as {{Wikipedia|Band Name (band)}} or something like that. Er... it sounds confusing, but I think I've made my point. what do you think? VdSV9 18:38, 1 Apr 2006 (EST)
I was thinking something like this
it would depend on an input from the user VdSV9 10:49, 2 Apr 2006 (EDT)
