Tunings

I think I agree with you, assuming I understand what you meant correctly. Awhile back I noticed that most alternate tuning don't have a clearly accepted name or people refer to as different names. Therefore, I started categorizing things by the names of the strings instead. Thus far, I have not enforced this format on popular named tunings (such as Drop D or Flat tuning), but all others, even if some names do exist, I have listed here: Category:Tuning. Is that what you meant? I hope so! If not, then let's discuss what you had in mind as it may be a much better organization technique!

Fingerpicking Project

I was delighted to see that you've joined the fingerpicking project! Maybe the WikiProject will gather momentum afterall! Feel free to contribute to the discussion there as we have just started considering some ideas on exactly how we can collaborate. I'd be interested to hear about your ideas.

Tablature Ideas

First of all, I am delighted to have discourse with other guitarists! I'm glad to see the beginning of a dedicated community of people working together to grow the wiki -- that's the point afterall! Please continue to bounce these ideas off me and I will do the same to you!

As for your idea, if you want to expand the discussion on how to write TAB, I fully support it! I thought over your suggestions and tried to think about what the best way to organize it is and I can't say that I have a clear idea. I suggest that you follow the Wikipedia philosophy of "being bold" and start adding pages as you see fit in the way that you believe it ought to be done and then let myself and other users suggest ways to change or improve as you move along. I'm sure that even if we disagree over specifics, the vast majority of your additions will be welcomed by all! As for the details, we can all contribute and fine tune those as you move along!

One thought I did have on setting a standard -- a standard way of writing tab could be a good idea, but then again people do have different styles. If you're writing down a "standard", maybe you should indicate that it is a suggested way of writing tab that is clear to most guitarists. Or say that most guitarists follow a particular protocol, but I wouldn't be too upset if, for example, a guitarist used an "h" or an "H" to indicate a hammer-on, or used a "b" or a "^" to indicate a bend, as both are common and accepted. In other words, to me it's more important that people feel comfortable writing down the tab they spent time figuring out rather than conforming to a strict set of rules that will swiftly be corrected after its added. That said, be bold and keep up the good work adding more information!

Any opinions?

I hope I didn't discourage you! Remember to be bold! Do what you think is best and we'll discuss as you go! I look forward to seeing the results!

Actually, you seem to be pretty interested in alternate tunings! I started making several of those categories, but unfortunately I don't usually explore them so I wasn't really sure what to write about 'em. If that's your kind of thing, feel free to go crazy and put up short descriptions of the ones you are familiar with. It could be complemented with chord diagrams in that tuning, etc.

Contact me

Shoot me an e-mail at mickmel@gmail.com I'd like to promote you to admin status, if you would like to.

Thanks.

Administration

Hey Oyster. I'm glad to see that there will finally be regular administrators available to monitor the site. I'm equally excited to see enthusiasm on your part.  :) Do you have a way to contact you via instant message? My SN is on my user page (AIM: xRockyRaccoon). -RockyRaccoon 04:48, 13 Jun 2007 (UTC)

Gmail

To answer your Gmail question - it's simply a web-based e-mail, similar to Hotmail and others. They give you a ton of storage (nearly 3 gigs), it's very slick, and it's free.

Redirects

The broken redirects actually work, but there were some odd templates put there that were apprently never used, so I removed the reference to those instead of deleting the redirect entirely. As for the double redirects, that seems pointless. Unfortunately there are nearly 90 of these and editing them all will take some time. I'll take another look at those later to see if the redirect is totally useless or if the middle redirect should be removed and the original redirect point directly toward the final one. It may be that a single pages was moved around more than once, leaving redirects in its place. In those cases, the redirects are useless and probably should be deleted. In other cases, perhaps it could be redirecting misspellings or other useful things -- I guess they should be evaluated on a case by case basis? -RockyRaccoon 04:15, 14 Jun 2007 (UTC)

Double Redirects

post in the forum about them, as it's easier to manage an ongoing discussion in there --Mickey 18:17, 14 Jun 2007 (UTC)

Indefinate blocking

I didn't mean to block him after you. I hit the link to block him, then took a minute before I actually did it. In the meantime, you took care of it. Just a coincidence. Thanks for doing it!

Unknown Artists

That's a good question (about the unknown artists). I haven't run into this problem before. If the artist is truly unknown (not just by you, but to all), then I guess we should create an "Unknown Artist" page with links to subpages from there. Does that sound reasonable? So it could go under "Unknown Artist/<song name>"? Perhaps on the "Unknown Artist" page, we could eventually separate it by style or time period (as more songs are posted there). What do you think?

BTW, thanks for the pointer on the "Rollback" button, I hadn't noticed it before, but I see it now that you mentioned it. I figured there must have been a better way to revert vandalism! That helps alot! -RockyRaccoon 19:32, 16 Jun 2007 (UTC)

Romanza

I really like this song! It is indeed a good add! On the third to the last bar, is that note on the 6th fret supposed to be on the 5th? -RockyRaccoon 21:11, 16 Jun 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

I just wanted to send praise your way in thanks for all you've been doing on the site. I'm new here, but I love the idea of tabwiki replacing the messy system of searchin for tabs scattered on a number of sites.

Keep doing what you do.

(And Gmail is quite good, btw.)

Vandalism

This is ridiculous! There must be a better way to deal with this! How does Wikipedia prevent vandalism of this magnitude??? -RockyRaccoon 04:10, 29 Jun 2007 (UTC)

Is there any way to create a filter that checks new edits for certain keywords (like the websites they keep adding)? I guess we can hack into the Wiki code on the server side (i.e. Mickey). I've installed a Wiki where I work and hacked the database a little bit to make it interact with other software. I know it's possible to add scripts to the wiki code if anybody felt comfortable enough... -RockyRaccoon 04:13, 29 Jun 2007 (UTC)

Delete template

Thanks for the heads up. Fingers crossed, with our shiny new spam protection I won't be needing to use it twenty times a day anymore... It's a better template now too, looks a bit nicer than the old one. Raelthelamb 20:56, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Images

Either from Wikipedia or Amazon, a few from progarchives.com. Wikipedia is obviously GFDL, Amazon is where last.fm gets theirs from, so obviously no copyright problems there, and the progarchives.com ones are extremely low-res (often only 100px square) so no copyright issue again. Don't believe I've found one yet that I couldn't get from one of those. Raelthelamb 16:47, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

New request page

Liking it, and the recent changes page as well. What happened to all the requests we had before? Have they just disappeared or has someone answered them all?

If you've wondered where I've got to this last week, I just started at uni, and my edit count has dropped dramatically. I shall return properly in time, however! Raelthelamb 21:56, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Some promotion would definately be welcome - I only found the site when I thought up the idea of a tab wiki myself and wanted to see if someone had set one up already! Raelthelamb 08:24, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for welcoming me to the site. I like what you guys are doing here. Silas
