Help! I want to add an artist/song, but I don't know how
Are we missing a song you want? Request it!
Wow, thats alot of new artists! cheers for the contributions and welcome to tabwiki! --Diploid 10:45, 2 Sep 2005 (EDT)
Hey, I've noticed that your adding all artists which start with 'the' as 'artist, the'. There was a discusion about this in the forums and the form decided on was 'the artist' as the artist page's title, and 'artist, the' for the listing in the categories. If you want to comment on this or view the discusion you can find it at http://www.tabwiki.com/forums/index.php?topic=12.0
--Diploid 15:35, 3 Sep 2005 (EDT)
Just noticed you've put the category latin jazz in jazz. I can understand how this makes sence but latin jazz should also be added to category:genre as its the main listing of all genres. I've been thinking about a hierarchial approach of categories such as this for a while. I think I'll set it up at category:genre(hierarchy), thanks for the unintentional reminder :P

Thanks again for your guidance! Please continue to let me know if I'm breaking any tabwiki rules! I have to admit that I have not yet read the forums -- I'll have to force myself to read through them at some point, so I don't run into any other problems like this. --RockyRaccoon 5 Sep 2005
Hey, I just saw the Drake, Nick page and I'm wondering why it's 'last, first' for the title of his page. We really should have some standard for how these pages are named. Cheers, Diploid 13:52, 10 Sep 2005 (EDT)
Thanks for reminding me! I think I had created that page before you told me about the convention! It's been changed to the proper convention now! --RockyRaccoon
Thnx a ton for voting for the tab of the week! I was starting to worry that it would be ignored!
Cheers,
Diploid 13:39, 20 Sep 2005 (EDT)
Your transcription of Sultans of Swing is interesting. The music is mostly right but the positioning is not the one that Knopfler uses.
I was wondering if I should correct your tablature or create another version. What would you prefer? --djib 20:58, 6 Aug 2006 (EDT)
Overworld Theme (Fingerstyle)
I've been looking over Koji Kondo/Overworld Theme (Fingerstyle) and Super Mario Bros/Super Mario Bros Medley and they seem to be different tabs for essentially the same song. I'm pretty sure Super Mario Bros/Super Mario Bros Medley is actually a version of basist Jean baudin's mario bro's theme song transposed to guitar (vid of Jean baudin's supermario bros theme song). Is Koji Kondo/Overworld Theme (Fingerstyle) simply a generic verision of the mario theme song or is it a specific artist's reincarnation of the song for guitar as with Jean baudin's?
--Diploid 22:49, 23 Sep 2005 (EDT)
Wow, after some research I have discovered WAY to many people have made their own version of this song. The one we have at Super Mario Bros/Super Mario Bros Medley is actually by a korean guitarist by the name of keilchi. I'm still curious if the overworld theme is any specific guitarist's rendering of the theme.
cheers,
Diploid 23:17, 23 Sep 2005 (EDT)
The Koji Kondo/Overworld Theme (Fingerstyle) is the overworld music played in Super Mario Brother 2, whereas Super Mario Bros/Super Mario Bros Medley is from the original Super Mario Brothers. The fingerstyle version that I had posted is not the song played in the game (that is much less guitar-friendly, but maybe I will post it anyway). The fingerstyle piece was arranged by "Walker Gibson" to make it easier to play on guitar. I really like it -- especially the middle part that repeats -- has sort've a jazzy feel with the walking bassline. About Walker Gibson -- as far as I know, he's not a well known guitarist, but has posted a few powertabs on the Power Tab Archive. That's the reason that I didn't create a new entry for him alone, but rather included it under Koji Kondo instead. This seems far more appropriate, or else we'd have to add a new artist entry for every tabber that creates a moderately different version of a song. RockyRaccoon 23 Sep 2005.
Removed Vandalism
I saw that you removed a user's feedback left on the talk page of Main Page. Why would that count as vandalism in your mind? I know there are no clear cut rules on when an edit counts as vandalism and when it does not. But as far as I saw this was a nice comment on the quality of the web site left in one of the more appropriate locations possible. Although I admit the erronius html after the message should have been removed i don't see why the hole message was deleted.
Cheers,
Diploid 16:00, 16 Oct 2005 (EDT)
It appeared that the entire point of the message was to insert links to about 50+ drug websites on the internet and the message that it was a "great wiki site" was so general that it's probably posted on a number of wiki sites as a cover for the real intent, which is to advertise. I'm not entirely sure why it was done the way it was -- in other words, posting the links and then hiding them in a table cell the size of a single pixel...but the intent seemed clear to me. I have an onling photo journal blog and I get this all the time -- where people post "Wow, great blog, thanks!" and then it's followed by a ton of advertisements or links to blogs which are really just advertisements. I first eliminated the links and was tempted to keep the comment, but I finally decided that it was probably just a way to cover the ads, and so deleted the message too. Especially since the message was so general, I couldn't conclude that it was sincere. But if you want to revert the message and allow it, I wouldn't have any arguments -- it was just a personal judgement I made that it wasn't a sincere message. Of course, if it was, I fully support it, since I have no problem with users expressing support for the site! In fact, I agree with you that it should be encouraged! --RockyRaccoon 16 Oct 2005.
Furthermore, I just checked out the history of that users posts, to see if he/she was a prolific poster or not. That post is the only post so far and I suspect they only registered to post the advertisement. Maybe I'm wrong? --RockyRaccoon 16 Oct 2005.
K, sorry, my mistake. I didn't realize the implications of that little
<div>tag at the bottum of the edit. Thanks for dealing with it and my newbism.
--Diploid 09:49, 17 Oct 2005 (EDT)
I see you have deleted another of HuySgoru's spammings. I've blocked his ip for 30 days so hopefully, if his ip isn't dynamic, he won't be back.
--Diploid 22:39, 19 Oct 2005 (EDT)
After looking at the situation more carefully I realized that HuySgoru is changing accounts with each edit and that tabwiki will only block the user name not the ip address from which it origonated. So in hopes to deter the spammer i have protected the discusion page temporarly. I hope that by the end of the week i can unprotect it. I realize protecting the discusion page sucks, but it will get the spammer to leave, then I think its worth it. its not a commonly edited page anyways. --Diploid 22:49, 19 Oct 2005 (EDT)
Rage against the Machine

Speacial Tunings
I was looking going through of the tabs and realized that some have tunings that don't have a regular tuning like Flat or Drop D.I think we should create a page of the name of the tab with irregular tunings.Cause i found a page with a EBDGAD tuning and i know there are more like that.Oysterguitarist 15:18, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
That is exactly what i meant.Thank you for putting that to geather,I hope we can expand on that page.Cause i noticed it while i was looking at the Fingerpicking section (Which i will be part of).Oysterguitarist 00:48, 1 Jun 2007 (UTC)
Tablature Keys
I know there is already a page on this at How to read and write tab, But it isn't very clear and doesn't have all symbols like harmonics, ghost notes, let note ring. So i was thinking i could put togeather a page which would have a tablature key that every one would follow instead of people using diffrent symbols making it confusing. Each symbol would have a page and a definition. I was thinking it could go like this:
- ~ Let note Ring
- P Pull Off
- H Hammer On
- T Tap
- + Harmonic
- / Slide up to random fret
- \ Slide down to random fret
- /n Slide to certain fret
- \n Slide down to certain fret
- b Bend
- r Release Bend
- (n) Ghost note
- trem Tremelo
- PM. Palm Mute
- trill Trill
- X Dead note
Let me know what you think and if you think it's good i'll start the pages, If you could also could come up with a name like Tablature Guidelines or Tablature definitions because i can't think of a good one. By the way like to share my new ideas with you cause you and i are probably the only ones who go on here daily. Let me know if this bothers you.
Oysterguitarist 03:29, 3 Jun 2007 (UTC)
Reading what you have said i re thought my idea. It could be a page with music terms. It would cointain the definition and it would tell you how to do it and how it can be shown it tabs.
Oysterguitarist 01:50, 4 Jun 2007 (UTC)
I tried making a page but it didn't seem right. So i came up with a diffrent idea of having a page of music terms, So someone could look up something if they didn't know what it is. So how should this be done?
Oysterguitarist 02:12, 4 Jun 2007 (UTC)
Lessons
I have thought about my ideas, i was thinking instead of doing a tablarue standard or a music terms page. I would do lessons, Like tapping, Natural harmonics, pinch harmonics, hammering, pull offs, ect. What do you think of that idea?

Spamming/Vandalism
I see we have a spamming problem. I have reported this to diploid on his talk page. He has not replied. I have given up on reporting vandalism to admins cause there aren't any who seem to be active. I don't think we could get those users removed cause there are no admis who go on reguarly. I have an idea if one or both of us could become an admin cause we go on almost every day, we could deal with it but there would be no one to give us admin privalages which is the problem. We could report it to another wiki. Do you have any ideas about this spamming/vandalism?
Oysterguitarist 00:41, 11 Jun 2007 (UTC)
I see the problem is continuing i don't have hotmail if you could try to get a hold of diploid at MSN MESSenger: hacky905@hotmail.com Oysterguitarist 16:19, 11 Jun 2007 (UTC)
Ok ive'v gone through all the userpages with text on them checking for vandalism i only found one Dinmoo0. This vandal is out of control. I have belif this vandal is a internet troll. I have checked ways for us do get help from another wiki i have tried meta and wikia as far as i can tell this site can't be helped. By the was i didn't know you had a account on wikipedia. i have one too [[1]] contact me there if you want .Oysterguitarist 20:03, 11 Jun 2007 (UTC)
Answer
Yeah that tab is incomplete i'm still working on it and it is nice to see that we have an admin back. I am thinking about becoming an admin here cause the rest of the admins seem to have forgetten about this place.
I guess Mikey already made you admin Congratulations. Oysterguitarist 02:38, 13 Jun 2007 (UTC)
Contacting me
No, i am usually on wikipedia most of the day you can contact me just go to my talk page there http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Oysterguitarist. I will try to set up some sort of email account. Cheers Oysterguitarist 04:53, 13 Jun 2007 (UTC)
Redirects
On the Maintenance page i found links to Double Redirects and Broken Redirects. They seem useless what should we do. Also is there a place where users can talk about tab wiki in general. If not can one be created. Cheers Oysterguitarist 04:03, 14 Jun 2007 (UTC)
I already started fixing them do you think i should delete instead. I do not want to delete unless we are sure so we don't have to make a ton of undeletes. Oysterguitarist 04:18, 14 Jun 2007 (UTC)
I have decided to stop fixing them for now, until a later time until we decide what to do with them. Oysterguitarist 04:23, 14 Jun 2007 (UTC)
Blocked DkbXiu
I blocked DkbXiu for 1 week for blanking part of your user page, cause blanking or partialy blaniking pages is not allowed. What did you think of Matt Redman/Breathing The Breath edit it also looked like page blanking. Do you think are spammer is blanking pages now? Oysterguitarist 17:19, 16 Jun 2007 (UTC)
Song
I have a new song Romanza it is very old, No one know's who even wrote it. Where would i put it cause i want to put it in the fingerpicking collection but thers no where to catagorize it. By the way when you click on the diff button on the recent changes it go's to the page and gives you a [[Rollback]] button it undo's the last edit's by the same author so if he vandalized the page more than once it removes all of his edits. Oysterguitarist 19:23, 16 Jun 2007 (UTC)
Yeah i made the Unknown Artists page. Also the song is a spanish folk song and is hundreds of years old, hope it's a good add i'm going to put it in fingerpickingOysterguitarist 20:50, 16 Jun 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for telling me about that error i fixed it and glad you liked the song! Oysterguitarist 22:13, 16 Jun 2007 (UTC)
Double redirects
I went threw the double redirects deciding what to do with them i had started to redirect them but i found they were totally useless have any problems with me deleting them? cause i don't think people will look for Choir:To Bid Farewell:Chords i think they would look for Choir/To Bid Farewell. Oysterguitarist 22:08, 18 Jun 2007 (UTC)
New changes
You probably noticed ip's can edit again. I thought we could give it a another try and be bold but if it doesn't work out we can go back to people having to create an account. Do you mind?Oysterguitarist 23:46, 27 Jun 2007 (UTC)
Something
If you look on the List of blocked IP addresses and usernames it says we blocked #90 and #91 but it doesn't appear in the recent changes. I think mikey should be notified cause i don't know what happened.Oysterguitarist 03:57, 29 Jun 2007 (UTC)
Ahhhh
I don't know all we can do is keep blocking.Oysterguitarist 04:11, 29 Jun 2007 (UTC)
give mikey an email asap. I delete spamed pages and you block. I'v asked him to upgrade software so we can prevent vandals that are blocked from creating accounts.Oysterguitarist 04:16, 29 Jun 2007 (UTC)
the answer to your question is yes we can filter recent changes but first we need to contact mikey and get his input.Oysterguitarist 04:20, 29 Jun 2007 (UTC)
oh and we can't block ip addresses indefinatly cause they can change over time, so just block them for a couple mouths. Hope this will stop soon.Oysterguitarist 04:24, 29 Jun 2007 (UTC)
I'd like to hear about your ideas as soon as possible. This spamming is crazy!! Just put your ideas on the main talk page. Oysterguitarist 02:34, 1 Jul 2007 (UTC)
Questionable edit
Do you think this edit is vandalism, i'm not sure so should we rollback to be safe? Oysterguitarist 17:53, 6 Jul 2007 (UTC)
Well I rolled it back to be safe. Oysterguitarist 03:10, 11 Jul 2007 (UTC)
Good news
Good news we upgraded the media wiki software. Oysterguitarist 22:41, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
